HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to stop by and check in, I know I have been on a very long break from my blog and I apologize. I have had so much medical stuff going on among other things, I haven't found time to sit down and blog. Heck, I didn't even read a single book in November!

It's a new year and I am ready to get back into blogging. I still have some health issues but my goal is to review at least 3 books a month, hopefully more. I ended up reading 135 books last year and didn't post reviews for most of them.

Thanks to all of my followers you have stuck around, I promise to have some new stuff up this month. I wish you all well in the new year!!

Waiting On Wednesday is hosted by Breaking The Spine! For now, I may do this once or twice a month. I really like the idea of featuring a book that I'm looking forward to but I don't want to overdo it either.
Why I'm Stoked:
Somehow the first I heard of this was during the ARC party that Epic Reads hosted. I actually watched the video of it afterward.

This book sounds SO good. I have a feeling that this is going to be action packed and Nisha sounds like a total badass!! I am very excited, I'll keep my fingers crossed for an ARC but I sincerely doubt it. Looks like I will be at B&N on February 5th!! One thing I know for sure, I'm glad I don't live in that city!
Book Synopsis (from Goodreads.com):
Chad Gamble, all-star
pitcher for the Nationals, is one of the best players on—and off—the
field. And right now, the notorious bad boy wants Bridget Rodgers. But
with her lush curves and snappy comebacks, the feisty redhead is the
kind of woman a man wants to settle down with…and that’s the last thing
Chad needs.

When the paparazzi catch them in a compromising
position, Chad’s manager issues an ultimatum: clean up his act or kiss
his multi-million dollar contract goodbye. To save his career, his
meddling publicist says he'll have to convince everyone Bridget isn’t
just his flavor of the week, but his girlfriend.

Being
blackmailed into a fake relationship with Chad Gamble isn’t easy,
especially when the sizzling physical attraction between them is
undeniable. With a month to go on their arranged pretense, it's going to
take every ounce of willpower they have not to fall into bed
together...or in love.

My Thoughts:
I wish some fictional characters existed in the real world. Chad Gamble is one of those characters. I fell in love with Chase Gamble in Tempting the Best Man but Chad absolutely stole my heart in this book. He takes sexy to a whole new level.

The chemistry between Bridget and Chad is electric and undeniable. Bridget is a feisty woman and I love pretty much everything about her. She's real. She has insecurities like a lot of women but she also knows how to carry herself. If I were Chad, I would have been drawn to her too. These two absolutely sizzle.

Keep an eye out for Miss Gore. I absolutely hated the woman at the beginning of the story but I slowly learned to appreciate her. Main reason being, she had me laughing hysterically at times.

Maddie, Chase, and Chandler are all in this book as well. I want these characters to last a lot longer than I think they are going to. Three books doesn't seem like enough. If there is one thing the amazing Jennifer L. Armentrout knows how to do perfectly, it's creating a steamy couple that draws you in. I don't think it's possible to put one of her books down. At this point, I am convinced that she can write anything and I will love it.
Ficklin and Tyler H. JolleyLisa Amowitz has done it again for Spencer Hill Press! She has designed such a beautiful cover, I can't wait to share it with you all!! First here is the blurb:

Welcome to the war.

The Tesla Institute is a premier academy that trains young time travelers called Rifters. Created by Nicola Tesla, the Institute seeks special individuals who can help preserve the time stream against those who try to alter it.

The Hollows is a rogue band of Rifters who tear through time with little care for the consequences. Armed with their own group of lost teens--their only desire to find Tesla and put an end to his corruption of the time stream.

Torn between them are Lex and Ember, two Rifters with no memories of their life before joining the time war.

When Lex’s girlfriend dies during a mission, the only way he can save her is to retrieve the Dox, a piece of tech which allows Rifters to re-enter their own timeline without collapsing the time stream. But the Dox is hidden deep within the Telsa Institute, which means Lex must go into the enemy camp. It’s there he meets Ember, and the past that was stolen from them both comes flooding back.

Now armed with the truth of who they are, Lex and Ember must work together to save the future before the battle for time destroys them both…again.

I absolutely cannot wait to read this! And now for the cover..
Absolutely stunning, am I right? Make sure you pick up this book when it is released!! The bad news? You have to wait just over a year for its release. I will remind you before the release though! Call me crazy but I don't think SHP can put out a bad book.
to achieve their goal, they embark on a different mission—one that possibly
As they attempt round two to restore peace and freedom for their kind, they

Best line, hands down, is the line that the title comes from: "Once you know something, you can never unknow it. Truth doesn’t let you do that. That’s the tragedy of knowledge."

I am completely obsessed with this trilogy and a huge fan of Rachael. I am happy to say that ToK did NOT disappoint. If you enjoyed Amaranth and The Gates, this is a MUST read. There are some steamy scenes, some intense battle scenes, and some heart breaking scenes.

While I LOVE Gavin and Camille as a couple, I am glad the entire book wasn't about their relationship. We got a lot of back story on other characters and found out why some characters are the way they are. I actually felt bad for certain people that I never imagined I'd feel sorry for.

I hate that I am writing such a short review for such a wonderful book but I don't want to give anything away!! You NEED to pick up this book though, it's incredible.
Starting college a year early is hard. Starting fae college and learning to protect the world from the Unseelie is harder.
Brielle Reed has always been an over-achiever, but this time she may have bitten off more than she can chew. Between her crash course in fae politics, struggles to control her new mind-reading ability, training sessions with the demanding Dr. Schwartz, and discoveries about the father who is still a mystery to her, Brielle finds herself longing for a chance at a normal life.
But she may not get that chance. Or chance at a life at all, for that matter.
As you are all well aware by now, I am totally obsessed with everything Jennifer writes. With that being said, of course I jumped at the chance to be a part of the cover reveal for OPAL, the third book in the Lux series. It is scheduled to be released on December 11, 2012. How amazing is that? Only four months to wait between Onyx and Opal! And now.. the cover you have been waiting for....
Book Synopsis (from Goodreads.com):
"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time."

Alexandria
isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her
Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if
the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a
goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever
Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code
word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with
another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to
Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws
near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's
caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One
has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed
themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed...
and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...
My Thoughts:
Without a doubt the best book I have read in 2012. That is saying something since Pure was released earlier this year. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from Spencer Hill Press in exchange for an honest review. Deity is scheduled for release on November 6, 2012. I highly recommend you pre-order this book RIGHT NOW! Seriously, stop reading this review, open another browser window, pre-order it, then come back here and finish reading.

Team Seth or Team Aiden? Screw that, I'm Team Alex. This kick butt protagonist has proved time and time again that she doesn't need a man. I guess I am overreacting a little bit because of course I love romance but really, these men have more than their fair share of issues and I don't know how she can possibly handle them all!

I think what I love most about this series is that Jennifer puts every ounce of herself into each book and it becomes more and more obvious as we continue this journey with Alex. In Deity, I got to see and learn more about characters I was curious about and it helped put some of the many theories floating around, to rest.

The Gods finally make an appearance and trust me, your jaw will drop. There are so many twists and turns, ups and downs, your head will be reeling long after you read the last page. For those of you who were hesitant to read this series because Half-Blood reminded you of Vampire Academy, I strongly suggest you reconsider. This is definitely a must read series for all lovers of the young adult genre.

If you're a fan of JLA then this is a must read for you. It will have you laughing, crying, and begging for more. Definitely an emotional roller coaster that will leave you wondering what in the world she can possibly come up with next. "Unputdownable" should be a word because it is perfect for describing this amazing book. I finished it within four hours of receiving it in my mailbox.

I have no idea how I managed to write a review on this book without spoilers but I did and I am quite proud! Cassandra Geribohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14017749806243863893noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2289871495780355926.post-3634258679861884232012-08-28T11:10:00.000-04:002012-09-26T17:39:24.738-04:00Jennifer L Armentrout Summer Blog Tour

I am truly obsessed with Jennifer's books, there is no other way to describe it. I am head over heels in love with her writing. You can't help but adore the characters she creates and the worlds she introduces us to. I am currently reading Onyx (What took me so long, right? Unfortunately being unemployed also leaves me broke so books only get purchased when my family is sick of hearing I have no books to read!) As soon as my Nook is charged up again, I am going to finish it. I'm VERY glad that Opal comes out in December because I don't think I could wait much longer.

I just wanted to stop by now that I am finally on my computer and give you all a little update. I had my surgery on July 5th and was in the hospital until the 9th. I went back in on the 15th until the 17th because of complications.

I haven't been on the computer for a few reasons. The main one is that keeping my laptop on my lap is difficult since it would be on my incision. The second is that it pretty much refuses to stay charged and the charger has to sit a certain way for it to work.

I've only read a couple of books since my surgery but I really want to get back to reviewing. I am on a couple of blog tours in the upcoming months but I hope to have some reviews up before then. Sorry for being gone for so long but my health has to come first. I love reading and I love reviewing but sadly that has to be on the back burner. I really appreciate you all sticking around and I promise to be back soon. One of the blog tours I am on is a Jennifer L Armentrout fan tour and guess what? There will be a giveaway for one of my ARC copies of DEITY which isn't out until November 6th! Be on the lookout for that!

To authors/publishers/etc. As of right now I am not accepting any self-published books unless I have already spoken with you or read one of your books previously. I just haven't been reading enough to keep up with the amount of requests I have for self-pubbed books. I hope you understand. Thanks so much!Cassandra Geribohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14017749806243863893noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2289871495780355926.post-20992184605038925752012-07-05T08:00:00.000-04:002012-07-05T08:00:11.699-04:00REVIEW: "Joe" by H.D. Book Synopsis (from Goodreads.com):
From the author of the
Alexa Montgomery Saga, comes a book that will take you into the mind of a
geniune pyschopath, the lives of six ordinary people, and the world of a
very special girl named Joe.

Joe is seemingly an ordinary
college student. She works, studies and reads. But in between these
activities Joe has a gift that promises to add a dose of color to her
life at any given moment. Joe sees things before they happen. Bad
things, and the worst thing she has ever faced is just around the
corner. Someone is planning a massacre at the college university that
Joe attends, and the only person with a hope of stopping the pyschopath
is her.

Oh, the beauty of foresight. More like a curse. Joe has
four days to figure out the mystery, make plans to take down the pyscho,
and save the lives of people. People like you and me. Ordinary people.
My Thoughts:
Suspenseful, thought provoking, a real eye opener.

I am a huge H.D. Gordon fan. Her Alexa Montgomery series has absolutely blown me away so far. That is probably why I was so shocked when I first started reading Joe and wasn't glued to it right away. You find yourself reading from eight different point of views and at first, it seems like too much. About a quarter of the way through it really picks up though and I was unable to put it down.

We get to see the world from Joe's point of view, The Decider's point of view, and from the view of six ordinary people. The Decider's point of view is bone chilling. He is truly a psychopath and every time I saw his name come up, I got goosebumps. He scares the crap out of me.

Joe is such a wonderful character. I love that she has a stutter, it makes her seem more real because she isn't perfect like so many characters we see. I feel like she is a girl I was friends with and that makes the story so much more alive for me.

Such an amazing, original story and different from what I've been reading for the past couple of years. You will learn to love some of the people in this story and will be dying to find out how it all ends. I pretty much held my breath towards the end waiting to find out what would happen. I'm not going to lie, the final scenes had me in tears when the big day comes. It was a nail biter until the very end!!

Title: Girl Of Nightmares (Anna #2)
Author: Kendare Blake
Publisher: Tor Teen
Pages: 304
Release Date: August 13, 2012
Book Synopsis (from Goodreads.com):
It's been months since
the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and
disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can't move on.
His
friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could
live--not walk around half dead. He knows they're right, but in Cas's
eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in
love with.
Now he's seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he's
asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very
wrong...these aren't just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in
new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.
Cas doesn't
know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows
she doesn't deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas
more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor.
Why I'm Stoked:
First of all, look at the cover. It is STUNNING. There is another version that is all red but I don't like it as much so I hope this ends up being the real one. I am a total cover snob, I admit it! Another reason I am dying to read this is because Anna Dressed In Blood was FANTASTIC. I was looking for a great ghost story and Anna definitely fits that criteria. I just finished it about a month ago and was so excited to see that Girl of Nightmares comes out in August. I guess being a little slow with the new books is a good thing!!!
Book Synopsis (from Goodreads.com):
The years is 1876, and there’s something strange and deadly loose in Philadelphia…

Eleanor
Fitt has a lot to worry about. Her brother has gone missing, her family
has fallen on hard times, and her mother is determined to marry her off
to any rich young man who walks by. But this is nothing compared to
what she’s just read in the newspaper—

The Dead are rising in Philadelphia.

And then, in a frightening attack, a zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor…from her brother.

Whoever
is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor
is going to find him, she’ll have to venture into the lab of the
notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces.
But as Eleanor spends more time with the Spirit-Hunters, including
their maddeningly stubborn yet handsome inventor, Daniel, the situation
becomes dire. And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her
very life may hang in the balance.

My Thoughts:
Let me start by saying, DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!!! The cover screams "goth girl from the 19th century" but that is NOT the case.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let me tell you that the beauty of this cover is continued into the story. I received an ARC copy of SS&D from the publisher and words cannot begin to tell them how thankful I am. I am completely head over heels with steampunk now.

Eleanor is such a great character. She is ladylike when she has to be but she knows how to "let her hair down" and do what needs to be done. She is quite loyal and is on a mission after the Dead deliver her a letter from her brother.

Zombie books are great but the story that Susan Dennard writes is new and original and it is really quite beautiful. I really like that the entire book isn't focused on the zombies, the relationships within the story play a huge role and I am pretty sure that is what makes this SS&D so wonderful. We see the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to relationships and you really won't know what to think.

If you like action, you have to read this. There is action right up to the end, you won't regret reading it. I am already patiently waiting for the release of A Darkness Strange and Lovely and sadly, I have t wait a very long time.
I have already read up through All Together Dead and I read Deity. Being stuck at the house gives me a LOT of time to read and I've been averaging about a book a day. I really need to start writing some reviews but for now, I wanted to share what I got because it seems like a lot. There may have been more but this is what comes to mind. What did YOU get!?
I just wanted to stop by and let you all know that my surgery has been postponed. I didn't have the proper health insurance so they refused to do it and now that I have insurance, my surgeon nor my doctor take it so I have to go through some loop holes before I can even get it re-scheduled. Unfortunately, they canceled it the day before it was supposed to happen and I ended up in the ER. Ugh. I'm not feeling so great but I've been up and around the house more so I am going to try and sit down and write some reviews. Sadly, I have read about 20 books without writing them and I swear my brain is just not functioning properly. Because of this, I keep getting characters confused and trying to remember certain things. I will have to sit down with each book and try to at least get a couple done.

Another issue I had was my NOOK broke a couple of weeks ago so I had to get that replaced and I haven't had the time to get my books back onto it. I'm just full of problems, huh??

I'm not making any commitments right now and I haven't responded to your email with a review request, I apologize. I will do so when I can. I am hoping to get at least 2 reviews done this week and try to pick out a couple more for next week.

For the two giveaway winners who haven't received their prizes yet, there will be a delay but I will get them to you, I promise. Since I've been out of work and still trying to catch up on bills, things have been a little hectic. Thanks so much for understanding.Cassandra Geribohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14017749806243863893noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2289871495780355926.post-55294784384834785542012-06-04T11:05:00.002-04:002012-06-04T11:05:51.033-04:00In My Mailbox (#12)

I just wanted to apologize for the lack of updates/reviews lately. I was diagnosed with Crohn's back in January and I stopped responding to medications so I've been very sick. I just got my surgery scheduled for June 12th. I will try to post a couple of reviews before then but I can't guarantee anything. I literally have like 10+ to write but I haven't had the energy. I will be in the hospital for a couple of days and then home to recover. I probably won't be online at all for at least 2 weeks. I did manage to get both giveaway posts up so I'm happy about that! Hopefully you'll continue to follow me because once I'm better, I plan on doing quite a bit with this blog. Thanks so much everyone!!!Cassandra Geribohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14017749806243863893noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2289871495780355926.post-11484517558050488662012-05-31T16:47:00.000-04:002012-05-31T16:47:02.588-04:00My Favorite Reads Giveaway Hop!!

This includes dog/pet sitting. I am currently staying at a house for 12 days with two doodles (lab and poodle.. love them to death!) While I am here, my aunt, who I currently live with/work for had a couple of dogs at the house with her. One of them was a 4 month old black lab puppy named Bella.

I went home during the day to get some stuff done and as I walk up my back steps, what do I find in shreds on the back porch? My ARC copy of "Something Strange and Deadly" by Susan Dennard. I freaked. I had finished the book already but I haven't completed my review and I am a little upset because I wanted to reference the book for a few things. On top of that, I have read 10 books since I finished SS&D so I don't want to screw anything up when I'm writing the review.

It's not really her fault, she's just a puppy and I had left it on the bedside table.. my aunt made the mistake of thinking that she was just "sleeping" while in the room and this is what has now happened. I thought it was a cute story and I felt like sharing.

Now the question, what do you guys think I should do about my review? Give a brief overview of what I liked/dislike and not give any examples of things from the story? Not write the review at all? Send the publisher what I do have done and explain to them what happend? Any advice would be appreciated and let me say with absolute certainty, I will NOT be leaving any books around my house anymore.Cassandra Geribohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14017749806243863893noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2289871495780355926.post-28938721808939502322012-05-21T08:19:00.000-04:002012-05-21T08:19:14.826-04:00Bout of Books ReadAThon Wrap-up
Well it looks as if I have survived my first read-a-thon!! This was probably the most fun I've had with reading in quite a while. Just knowing that I had goals to meet, kept me reading and writing like crazy. I am definitely looking forward to the next one and will be on the look out for more read-a-thons. If you know of any, please let me know!! Now that I've done all of this reading, I really need to catch up on reviews.

These were my goals:

Read a minimum of 5 books

Write at least 2 reviews

Try to participate in at least 1 twitter chat

Interact with at least 5 bloggers

Here is what I actually did:

Read 10+ books

Wrote 3 reviews and started 3 additional reviews

Did not get to participate in a twitter chat

Interacted with 10 bloggers

Book Synopsis (from Goodreads.com):
In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When
Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her
life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For
Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of
books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious,
charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice
around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall
in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead
being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to
save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a
centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to
murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she
may never be safe again.
My Thoughts:
Où dois-je commence... hopefully translates to "Where do I begin?" I have heard so many amazing things about this book and I am glad I finally got the chance to read it. I have always dreamed of going to Europe, so a book set in France was quite fun!

I love Vincent and his "family", I even love Kate's family but I am not too fond of Kate, not yet anyway. She is just so typical and predictable that I almost didn't want to finish the book. By the end, I didn't completely hate her and I will certainly pick up "Until I Die" but that is mostly for more on the revenants than Kate. I think Plum has something good going here and I am intrigued. I really want to learn more about them because I am still having a hard time understanding it all but that's what a series will do to you!

I'd have to say that my favorite characters are Ambrose and Jules. They had me laughing at several points in the book and they are genuinely good guys. They are pretty badass too and we all know how much THAT helps.

While I'm not a fan of "insta-love", I do like parts of the Vincent/Kate romance. If I didn't, why would I bother reading the series, right? This is quite typical as far as YA goes but it is well written and it definitely keeps you reading. I managed to read it in just a few hours because I didn't want to put it down. And since I'm always honest with my readers, I will tell you right now that I am going to Barnes and Noble tomorrow to pick up "Until I Die". So yes, I guess even though I don't love Kate, I recommend picking this up!

Book Synopsis (from Goodreads.com):
It began in the
graveyard. Ever since her boyfriend Nathan died in a tragic accident
Emma had been coming to the graveyard at night. During the day she went
through the motions at her prep school, in class, with her friends, but
that’s all it was. But tonight was different. Tonight Emma and her dog
were not alone in the cemetery. There were two others there—Eric, who
had just started at her school, and an ancient woman who looked as
though she were made of rags. And when they saw Emma there, the old
woman reached out to her with a grip as chilling as death….

My Thoughts:
I received a copy of Silence through a Goodreads giveaway and was really excited to finally sit down and read it. A few hours later, my head hurts. I really want to say that I loved this book but I can't. The characters were so different from what I'm used to and the story line, for once, didn't include a love triangle (heck, there wans't any romance at all.. quite a refreshing change!)

We have Emma, who you think is your typical teen girl protagonist and to some extent she is.. but she was actually quite wonderful. Michael, the high functioning autistic. Amy "Miss Popular", and Allison the super loyal best friend. I really liked Eric and Chase as well. We are introduced to many other characters later on in the story and I feel like we should know more about them. Even by the end of the book, I still had no idea who they were exactly.

That is what my issue is. The flow of the story just didn't work. Most of the time, I couldn't even figure out who was talking because there was so much dialogue and it wasn't written very well. When I say that my head hurt after finishing it, I'm not kidding. I really enjoyed the storyline and like I said, I liked the characters but the book just fell short for me. I'm a huge Anita Blake fan so of course I enjoy stories involving necromancy, I just wanted this one to be better than it turned out to be.

I'll be honest though, I am going to pick up the next book in the series because I want to see if I can sort some of my confusion out. Plus, unless I absolutely hate the first book.. I ALWAYS finish a series. If you don't mind some slight confusion, I would highly recommend this book. Aside from a few things, I thought it was quite enjoyable and it was a fast read.
